The City of Austin and its identity evolved rapidly over the past 20 years, and the rate of growth brought challenges that implicated the city’s collective culture. We asked whether Austin had retained its “weird” slacker spirit amidst surging wealth and whether “Keep Austin Weird” had become a marketable commodity rather than a reflection of community values. This panel explored how modern Austin still manifested as an inclusive home for cowboys, hippies, artists, and entrepreneurs alike.
