Know Before You Go

Photography and videography are allowed. Please no flash. Additional lighting, monopods/tripods, or selfie sticks are not allowed.

No food or drink is permitted inside the library. A list of nearby restaurants is available at the Visitor Services Desk. Please note that most locations on The University of Texas campus are not open on weekends.

The University of Texas at Austin is a tobacco-free campus. Smoking outside the building is not permitted. The university prohibits the use of any tobacco product on campus property, including but not limited to cigarettes, cigars, water pipes (hookah), and smokeless tobacco. It also prohibits innovations in smoke or tobacco products such as any non-FDA approved electronic nicotine delivery device, e-cigarette, or vape pen.

The LBJ Presidential Library is a federal facility as it is part of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). To protect its holdings, staff, and buildings, NARA facilities abide by the following measures within Code of Federal Regulations, 36 CFR § 1280:

• All bags are subject to inspection upon entering the building. 
• All persons entering or leaving the building are subject to an inspection of their person and property.
• If requested, all persons entering must provide valid photographic identification.

Visitors should also be aware that:

• Electronic and physical surveillance is used in the building.
• Security is on-site 24 hours a day.

It is a violation of federal law and punishable by fine and/or imprisonment to knowingly possess, cause, or attempt to introduce them in a federal facility.

Animals are not permitted inside the library, except for service animals on a leash and under their owner's control.

All bags will be inspected upon arrival at the Library. A complimentary bag check is located on the 3rd floor. The Library reserves the right to prohibit any visitors from bringing in any items to the Library and to require visitors to check any bags or items. Prohibited items that are brought to the Library may be confiscated.

Large bags and backpacks must be left at bag check. Small bags may be worn at your front or carried in your hand while in the galleries.

Smaller umbrellas may be placed in a protective bag supplied by the Library and carried. Large umbrellas should be checked.

All articles left at bag check must be claimed before 4:45 pm. The Library is not responsible for items that are left overnight. A corresponding bag check tag is required for the return of items. Please place the numbered tag in a secure place.

The Library holds zero liability for items left in the bag check area. Please leave items at your own risk.

During times of inclement weather, coats may be hung on the coat rack at your own risk. The Library is not responsible for theft or damage from hanging your coat.

• Baby changing stations are available inside the accessible restrooms on floors 2 and 10.
• Strollers are permitted inside the library unless otherwise noted for a special exhibition.
• Breastfeeding and bottle feeding are permitted anywhere in the library.

Visitors are welcome to join our public wifi network. It is available for use in all our public exhibition spaces.

Please inform the nearest security guard, volunteer, or library staff member if you require first aid.
